And
YOUR GENEROUS DONATION IS GREATLY APPRECIATED AND ENCOURAGED

Members of the Broward Lotus Sangha and the Lotus Institute for Mindful Living will be leading us in a MINDFUL DRUMMING FOR PEACE CEREMONY with sacred sounds, songs and chants from many of the World’s Spiritual Traditions to nurture and project our heart’s loving kindness to all beings.

Our Mindfulness Practice will serve as a means to generate the Blessing of Peace for 2009 through the practice of sitting, walking, and sound meditation. Practicing simple body awareness and being in the present moment, we remember our True Nature. Resonating with the vibration of sound and loving intention, we cultivate the energy of peace (shanti), loving kindness (metta/maitri), compassion (karuna), joy (mudita), equanimity (upekkha/upeksha), and generosity (dana), within & without, for the benefit of all beings.

After the ceremony, at about 9:00 P.M., we invite you and your significant others to join us for tea, healthy vegetarian treats, and warm friendship.

  • Voices, Drums, and Percussion Instruments welcome
  • Any other musical instruments you play such as flute and guitar also welcome

Please feel free to bring…

Invites you to attend our Annual
NEW YEAR’S CEREMONY
IN THE TRADITION OF ZEN MASTER THICH NHAT HANH

Join us in welcoming 2009 in a meaningful and mindful way with a NEW YEAR’S CEREMONY in the Tradition of Zen Master Thích Nhất Hạnh. In the Buddhist tradition, the transition to a New Year is a wonderful time to let go of our past—our anger, sadness, and resentment; renew and ground ourselves in the present moment—forgive, love and accept ourselves and each other as we truly are; and develop our positive aspirations for the future—a firm determination to learn ways to transform our suffering, deepen our practice, and help build a society in which there is time to enjoy and care for nature, smile to each other, and bring happiness to and care for one another.

As in previous years, we will begin at 7:00 P.M. with sitting and walking meditation, followed by guided meditations and rituals to celebrate the passing of the year 2008 and the beginning of 2009. These rituals, developed in Plum Village by Zen Master Thích Nhất Hạnh, are done with the intention of facilitating our ability to ground ourselves firmly in the present moment, so we can recognize our spiritual roots, express gratitude for the gifts we have received, let go of the past, renew ourselves, and hone and develop our positive aspirations for the future.

After the ceremony, at about 9:00 P.M., we invite you and your significant others to join us for tea, healthy vegetarian treats, and warm friendship.

  • Feel free to bring offerings of flowers, fruit, and tea to be placed in the altar for the ceremony, as well as any other non-alcoholic beverages of your choice, vegetarian dish, dessert, or treat you wish to share with the Sangha.
  • Please remember to bring whatever utensils are needed to cut and serve your particular dish.
  • In order to be kind to the Earth Mother, please also bring your own non-disposable teacup and utensils.

COME CELEBRATE WITH US!

Day of Mindfulness Led by Venerable Brother Thich Chan Huong Hue-Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

Published under News and Special Events

The Broward Lotus Sangha
and
The Vietnamese Buddhist Cultural Center of Florida
Are pleased to invite you to a
Day of Mindfulness
In the Tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhẩt Hạnh
Led by Venerable Brother Thich Chan Huong Hue
Sunday, November 23rd, 2008
In Davie, FL
From 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.

Venerable Brother Thich Huong Hue is a Monastic Dharma Teacher who was ordained as a Buddhist monk by Zen Master Thich Nhẩt Hạnh (Thây) in Plum Village, France, in 1992. He currently serves as the Abbott of Tu Viện Hương Hải, a Vietnamese Buddhist Monastery in Florida.

This Plum Village-style Day of Mindfulness (DOM), conducted in English and Vietnamese, will provide a wonderful opportunity for those who want to deepen their mindfulness practice with time for reflection and silence in the tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhẩt Hạnh. Throughout the day, we will enjoy periods of sitting and walking meditation, chanting, and mindful movements, as well as Deep Relaxation, a Dharma Talk by Venerable Brother Thich Huong Hue and Dharma Sharing from the four-fold Sangha. We will enjoy a traditional Vietnamese lunch, tea ceremony, and dinner lovingly prepared by the monastic and lay Sanghas. There will also be an opportunity for those who wish to formally take the 5 Mindfulness Trainings to do so at the end of the day.

Please arrive before 8:00 A.M. so you can relax, absorb the peaceful beauty of the natural surroundings, and help the Sangha set up for the day. Please respect and appreciate Noble Silence during the duration of the formal activities of the day. An opportunity for sharing and mindful conversation will be provided towards the end of the DOM.

This event is free an open to all practitioners. However, your generosity in providing a donation or Dana for the monastic and lay Sanghas is gratefully accepted and encouraged. Your kind donation to our community of practitioners helps the Sangha defray the costs associated with this DOM and supports our activities.

Thich Nhẩt Hạnh’s CDs, DVDs, books, and Sangha T-Shirts with his calligraphy will be available during the DOM.

To register, please e-mail Tony at strega_flies@earthlink.net. Directions and a list of what to bring will be sent to all registered participants. Please register as soon as possible so we can plan the meals for the day.
