The Broward Lotus Sangha will be joining the Dade and Broward Chapters of the Florida Native Plant Society for a field trip to the Hillsboro Pineland Natural Area in northwest Broward County led by Chuck McCartney. This 56.3-acre-site in Coconut Creek represents some of the last remaining pineland in Broward County. Features also include wetland, hammock and eroded limestone, a remnant of the time when the site was a spillway leading from the Everglades to the Atlantic and a variety of grasses and wildflowers. Several species of hawk, various wood warblers, owls, woodpeckers, and different species of wading birds call this natural area home. The park facilities have recently been improved and include an elevated boardwalk and shelter.
