Day of Mindfulness 2/2/08 led by Dharma Teacher Fred Eppsteiner

Published by admin under Archived News

From time to time, we can set aside some time for a retreat or a day of mindfulness so we can sit, walk slowly, smile, eat lunch with friends and enjoy being together as though we are the happiest people on Earth.
This is not just a retreat, it is a treat.
–Thich Nhat Hanh

The Broward Lotus Sangha
is pleased to invite you to a
Day of Mindfulness
In the Tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh
lead by Dharma Teacher Fred Eppsteiner
Saturday, February 2, 2008
at Plantation Heritage Park in Plantation, FL
from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Fred Eppsteiner received Dharma Transmission and permission to teach from Thich Nhat Hanh in 1994. He will be will be offering dharma teachings and guiding walking and sitting meditations throughout the day.

This Day of Mindfulness (DOM) will also provide a wonderful opportunity for those who want to deepen their mindfulness practice in a natural setting with time for reflection and silence. This beautiful 90-acre recreational area, the traditional site of our “Broward Lotus Sangha Buddhist Picnics at the Park”, boasts a seven-acre lotus pond, a rare fruit area, and an Australian Pine and Bamboo mini forests for walking meditation. There is plenty of wildlife available for your mindful enjoyment, as well as a big “bodhi tree” under which we can enjoy sitting meditation. The Sangha has reserved shelter #8 for our Day of Mindfulness.

What to bring:

  • Your favorite meditation seating arrangement, e.g., meditation cushion, blanket, mat, or chair
  • A brown bag vegetarian lunch for yourself and/or
  • A vegetarian dish you want to share with attendees during our potluck lunch (plus the utensils you will need to serve it).
  • Unable to cook? No problem, Wholefoods Market is less than 2 miles away on the corner of University Dr. and Peters Road.
  • Water and/or your favorite non-alcoholic drinks
  • In order to be kind to the Earth Mother, please bring your own non-disposable plates, tea cups, utensils and napkins.

This event is free and open to all practitioners. However, the park charges a $1.50 entrance fee payable at the door and your generosity in providing a donation or Dana for the teacher is gratefully accepted and encouraged. Donations can also be made to help us pay for the rental of the shelter and support the activities of the Sangha or community of practitioners during this DOM.

Please arrive early so you can relax and absorb the quiet beauty of the natural surroundings and to help the Sangha set up for the activities of the day (starting at 8:00 A.M.). Please respect noble silence during the duration of the formal activities of the day. An opportunity for sharing and mindful conversation will be provided towards the end of the DOM.

To register, e-mail Jose Fernandez at gautamashakyamuni@hotmail.com. Jose will provide driving directions to the park upon receiving your registration. Please Register early. Space is limited. (305) 733-8017
