Welcome to the Broward Lotus Sangha

A ‘Sangha‘ is a community of practitioners that gets together to meditate, practice mindfulness, and socialize with a focus.

The Broward Lotus Sangha (BLS) is Non Profit Organization founded as a Community of Mindful Living in the tradition of Zen Master Thích Nhất Hạnh, our spiritual teacher. Thây, as he is affectionately known to his students, is the founder of Van Hanh Buddhist University in Saigon and the Unified Buddhist Church (Eglise Bouddhique Unifieé) in France and the United States. His lifelong efforts to generate peace and reconciliation moved Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1967. The Most Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh is a Vietnamese Zen Master, Beloved Dharma Teacher, Buddhist Scholar, poet, prolific writer, and well known peace activist.

Our organization offers Meditation Sessions, Retreats, Days of Mindfulness, Family and Children Programs, Dharma Movie Nights, Picnics-in-the-Park, Mindful Outings in Nature, and other Environmentally Conscious Dharma Activities and Special Events. To see a list of our Sangha’s past, present, and future activities and events, visit our Calendar Section.

The Broward Lotus Sangha meets for regularly scheduled Meditation Sessions every 1st, 3rd and 5th Sunday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Po Chi Lam Training Center, 7185 Pembroke Road, Pembroke Pines, FL. The door opens around 6:00 PM to set up and practitioners are invited to mindfully arrive by 6:15 PM so they can find a comfortable place to sit and relax while listening to the music. Silent meditation starts promptly at 6:30 PM. If you arrive after that, please come in quietly. (We will be talking again by about 7:00 PM when our walking meditation commences). At the end of the meditation gathering we usually share some tea and treats and, whenever possible, go out to dinner nearby afterwards. In order to be kind to the Earth Mother, please bring your own non-disposable teacup.
