Welcome to the Broward Lotus Sangha

A ‘Sangha‘ is a community of practitioners that gets together to meditate, practice mindfulness, and socialize with a focus.

The Broward Lotus Sangha (BLS) is Non Profit Organization founded as a Community of Mindful Living in the tradition of Zen Master Thích Nhất Hạnh. Thây, as he is affectionately known to his students, was nominated by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for the Nobel Peace Price in the 1960s when they were working together to end the war in Vietnam and promote Peace on Earth.

Our organization offers Meditation Sessions, Retreats, Days of Mindfulness, Family and Children Programs, Dharma Movie Nights, Picnics-in-the-Park, Mindful Outings in Nature, and other Environmentally Conscious Dharma Activities and Special Events. To see a list of our Sangha’s past, present, and future activities and events, visit our Calendar Section.

The Broward Lotus Sangha meets for regularly scheduled Meditation Sessions every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Po Chi Lam Training Center, 7504 Pembroke Road, Pembroke Pines, FL. The door is open around 6:00 PM to set up and practitioners should be arriving by 6:15 PM so they can say ‘hello’, find a comfortable place to sit and relax while listening to the music. Silent meditation starts at 6:30 PM. If you arrive after that, please come in quietly. (We will be talking again by about 7:00 PM when our walking meditation commences). At the end of the meditation gathering we usually share some tea and treats and, whenever possible, go out to dinner nearby afterwards. In order to be kind to the Earth Mother, please bring your own non-disposable teacup (disposable ones are usually provided by the Sangha).

If you are just beginning your meditation practice and would like to learn more about our Community of Mindful Living or basic meditation techniques, or please visit our Frequently Asked Questions, Other Tools for Mindfulness Practice, and Links for Mindfulness Practice sections. You may also wish to set up an appointment for an introductory meditation class offered at 6:00 PM before our regularly scheduled Sunday Meditation Sessions or stay after the meeting to ask for guidance from one of our core Sangha members.
